Cisco Clean Access - (formerly Perfigo SmartEnforcer)

Cisco Clean Access was implemented on the UND residence hall network at the beginning of fall semester. It protects the network by enforcing security policies and preventing viruses and worms from infecting systems on the network. Prior to permitting access to the network, Cisco Clean Access automatically detects, isolates, and cleans infected or vulnerable devices. It evaluates all devices that attempt to access the network for compliance to internal security policies, such as up-to-date operating system patches, running anti-virus software at the current level, and automatic update configurations. Non-compliant devices are placed into a quarantine area for automated repair processes, minimizing much of the work of information technology staff. Systems are monitored on a regular basis to keep them secure.

Cisco Clean Access dramatically reduced the number of security incidents during Fall 2004 semester compared to the same time in 2003. It continues to help maintain updated and secure computers for more reliable access and use of the campus network.
