With the ever increasing number and threat of virus infections it is important that each of us takes the necessary steps to install and update our anti-virus software. There are many ways to obtain an infected file, including e-mail on servers that may not scan for viruses, downloading files directly from the web, or from someone else via diskette.

We are now providing McAfee VirusScan version 8.0 which will run on Windows XP, NT, and 2000 computers. This version was updated on January 26th. It is configured to update itself 48 minutes after the computer starts and also if the computer has been idle for more than 25 minutes. The update during idle was added to offer greater protection by doing updates during slow times to take advantage of new updates that may be released during the day. This version also protects against files other than virus. It has some protection against adware, spyware (see article: "Spyware: Your Computer's New Pests"), and other malicious files.

McAfee anti-virus software is also available for Windows 98, ME, or 95. McAfee version 4.5.1 is required to run on these operating systems.
