TSO

TSO (Time Sharing Option) has replaced the WYLBUR program. TSO allows a computer to interact with the MVS operating system on the UND administrative host computer to execute both interactive and batch programs and manage output. Several licensed programs of International Business Machines Corporation are used in TSO such as ISPF (Interactive System Productivity Facility), PDF (Product Development Facility) and IOF (Interactive Output Facility). The ISPF and ISPF/PDF products are combined into one product named ISPF in version 4.1.

ISPF uses panels/screens/windows which allows the user to select menu options, specify parameters, issue line and primary commands, and program function (PF) keys to simplify requests for common functions. When data does not fit on the screen, ISPF provides scrolling in all four directions with arrows keys or primary commands of left ( ), right ( ), up( ) and down( ).

An HECN TSO web page has been developed in order to provide on-line access to training materials, basic form and page definitions, and new tips and changes as they occur. You can find the TSO web page by going to the UND Computer Center home page and select the TSO information and training handouts link found in the text or going directly to the site with the URL: http://www.und.edu/dept/CC/tsoinfo/.

The Training Handouts link has several documents available. If you are new to TSO and would like to get good basic TSO information, check out the Introduction to TSO Training Handout document. If you are already using TSO and submit several parameter cards at a time, be sure to check the PARMCARD REXX Exec document. It will save you lots of key strokes and lots of time.

The FTP process for up/download is explained in explicit detail in the Introduction to TSO Training Handout in Appendix D: Transferring Files between the Mainframe and PC. It is also explained in the New Tips link in the FTP Up/Download using OS/390 document. If FTP is not to your liking, instruction on how to up/download from native TSO can be found in the Old Tips link in the File Transfer document.
