There have been several changes in leadership at the UND Computer Center since spring
semester. With Dale Vetter's retirement July 1, Dorette Kerian was named interim director of
the UND Computer Center and Marv Hanson has primary responsibility for the North Dakota
Higher Education Computer Network (NDHECN) north site located at UND in the interim. Both
Dorette and Marv retain their associate director responsibilities at the Computer Center.
Greg Chalmers became associate director for administrative information services (AIS) following
Ben Morgan's retirement. AIS programmers have responsibility for the student and financial
records systems available to all members of the North Dakota University System.
Some key projects the Computer Center is working on this academic year include: making
required changes to prepare for year 2000; adding new mainframe hardware and updating
software to assure reliability of student and financial information systems; investigating methods
of improving student and financial information systems; increasing network bandwidth to the
Internet (especially in support of researchers); improving network performance intracampus;
revising the help center for faster response to customer questions and problems; improving
response to desktop application and client requests for installation, training and other service; and
beginning the first stage of providing students, faculty and staff improved e-mail on UND
systems.
