Configuring Your
E-mail Software for the U-mail System
NOTE: The
programs listed below are POP mail software, by default your mail will be copied
to your microcomputer and deleted from the server. To obtain any of the following
software see User Note #I6: Downloading Macintosh Applications from the
Web or User Note #I7: Downloading Windows 95/98/NT Applications from the
Web.
Outlook Express (Windows
XP/2000)
- Start Outlook Express
- Browse for folder screen
comes up - click OK to accept the default folder
- Choose TOOLS, click
the Accounts tab then choose Mail
- Click the ADD button
& choose Mail from the pop-up menu
- Enter your name at the
Display name prompt & click Next
- Enter your e-mail address
at the address prompt & click Next
- Choose the Incoming
server POP3 (copies mail to your computer and deletes from und.nodak.edu)
or IMAP (email remains on und.nodak.edu).
Incoming mail server: und.nodak.edu
Outgoing mail server:
und.nodak.edu Note:
If you are using an internet provider (ISP) other than UND, you need to enter
the outgoing (SMTP) server for your ISP. Contact your ISP for further information.
Click Next
- Enter the Account name
(that's the part before the @ sign in your address, e.g mister_data, be sure
to include the UNDERSCORE or DOT), leave the password blank if you want to
be prompted to enter your password & click Next
- Click Finish
Eudora 7.x - Windows
Note: Eudora 7.x may
be run in one of 3 modes (Light, Sponsored, or Paid). Setup is the same
regardless of mode. If using the Eudora set-up wizard, the incoming and outgoing
mail servers are und.nodak.edu
- Start Eudora
- If the settings dialog
box doesn't come up, choose the Tools menu, then Options.
- Choose "Getting Started",
enter the following information:
Real Name: your name
Email Address: your_userid@und.nodak.edu
Mail Server (Incoming): und.nodak.edu
Username: your_userid
SMTP Server (Outgoing): und.nodak.edu Note:
If you are using an internet provider (ISP) other than UND, you need to enter
the outgoing (SMTP) server for your ISP. Contact your ISP for further information.
- Choose "Incoming Mail"
and choose either POP (copies mail to your computer and deletes from und.nodak.edu)
or IMAP (email remains on und.nodak.edu).
- Click OK
Eudora 6.x - Macintosh
- Start Eudora
- If the settings dialog
box doesn't come up, choose the Special menu and choose Settings.
- Choose "Getting Started",
enter the following information:
Username: your_userid
Mail Server: und.nodak.edu
Real Name: your name
SMTP Server: und.nodak.edu *Note:
If you are using an internet provider (ISP) other than UND, you need to enter
the outgoing (SMTP) server for your ISP. Contact your ISP for further information.
Return Address: (not required if the same as your email address)
- Choose "Sending Mail"
- Choose "Checking Mail",
choose either POP (copies mail to your computer and removes from und.nodak.edu)
or IMAP (email is left on und.nodak.edu).
- Click OK
