U-mail Upgrade Status:
The U-mail system is now available for use. Please contact the ITSS Help Desk (777-2222) if you are experiencing difficulties.
Browser Compatibility: The U-mail web interface (convergence) is compatible with Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 2, and Safari 3. Other browsers may allow access but some features may not work. If you are experiencing difficulty, please try a compatible browser.
Known Issues:
- Forwarding -- automatic forwarding of messages to a different email address in some cases is not working at this time. -- RESOLVED
-
Time Out -- connections to U-mail (web, imap, pop) are timing out even when actively working on a message. Until this issue is resolved, if you need to type a long message using Convergence (web) please type the content in a text editor and copy and paste to send.
-
Filters -- filters created using Web Access for U-mail did not transfer to the new system, you will need to recreate them.
-
Web Users Missing Email or Addressbooks -- Please login and verify that if you used Web Access for U-mail that any mail folders or your addressbook as appropriate are available on the new system. If not, please contact the Help Desk and we will retransfer the information from the old system.
- Web Users Preview Pane -- the preview pane that displays the selected message at the bottom of the screen is a permanent feature. You may resize it by clicking on the double line between the list of messages and the pane and dragging to make it larger or smaller.
- Password stopped working -- a process began clobbering our passwords, it has been stopped and revised. Unfortunately, a number of accounts were impacted. If you were able to log into the new U-mail system prior to mid-morning Friday May 29th,
please do ONE of the following:
1. Go through the account claiming process located at : idm.und.edu/idm/user, click "Claim your Account" on the bottom of the page. A part of the process will be to choose a new passphrase, which is a password, just longer.
OR
2. Contact the Help Desk to reset your password. If you have already contacted the Help Desk, we continue to work through the requests.
- Internet Explorer 6 -- not all features work with IE 6, if you use IE 6 please try a different browser if you experience problems.
- Blank Messages -- a few people have reported that messages accessed using the web are blank. ITSS is working with the vendor re: this and other browser compatibility issues.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION BEFORE ACCESSING YOUR EMAIL FOR THE FIRST TIME AFTER THE UPGRADE!
Please note the following:
-
All messages will have a status of NEW. There may be a delay the first time you access your email as the messages are loaded. To change the status to "read" using convergence (web access), login, right click on the folder and choose "Mark All as Read."
-
SPAM -- some SPAM messages slipped through during the upgrade. As a result you will find SPAM in your mailbox, please remove it without reading it since it may contain viruses. Once the queued messages are delivered, the level of SPAM should return to the norm.
-
Deleted messages may reappear when you log on to the new U-mail -- we began the process of transferring the email messages a couple weeks before the actual update to speed up the process of moving to the new server. As a result, messages you deleted on the old server may have gotten moved to the new server and will need to be deleted again.
-
Underscore addresses have been converted. If you had an email address with an underscore (e.g. jane_doe), you will need to log in using a dot in place of the underscore (e.g. jane.doe). This applies whether you are using the web or a POP/IMAP client such as Eudora, Outlook Express and Mac Mail.
-
Attachments are limited for POP and IMAP as well as the web. People using the web are limited to approximately 10MB (note: you can attach files larger than this but they will fail upon sending). People using POP/IMAP (e.g. Outlook Express, Eudora, Mac Mail etc.) are now limited to messages a total of 40MB.
