April 15, 2010—Postmark deadline for complete nomination packets

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for a scholarship, you must:

  • · Be an enrolled member of a Sioux (Lakota, Nakota, Dakota) Tribe with preference to students enrolled at Spirit Lake or Standing Rock.  Note:  If it becomes impossible to fulfill first priority, then scholarships may go to members of other underrepresented groups at the University of North Dakota.

  • · Provide a certificate of tribal enrollment or proof of descent

  • · Be admitted to UND as a new incoming freshman or transfer student for the 2010-11 academic year and plan to be enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours each semester)

  • · Apply for Federal financial aid by completing the 2010-11 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov

  • · Be eligible for a Federal Pell Grant

Nomination Package

All required forms and documents must be sent to the Student Financial Aid Office at the address on the top of this form and postmarked by the deadline.

  • · Student Application—consists of student’s personal information form and essays

  • · Certificate of tribal enrollment or proof of descent

  • · Nomination Form—completed by someone that knows the student’s academic background

  • · Recommender Form—completed by someone that knows the student’s community service and leadership activities (may also be the nominator)

Amount and Duration of Award

  • · The amount of the award will be determined by the student’s unmet need on the financial aid award package to be provided by UND.

  • · The award is renewable.  A student may receive a maximum of eight semesters of funding for undergraduate work leading to a first bachelor's degree.  The duration for transfer students is prorated.

  • · Renewal Criteria:

  • · Complete 12 credit hours each semester

  • · Minimum 2.25 Institutional GPA for students who have earned less than 60 credit hours; 2.50 institutional GPA for students who have earned 60 credit hours or more

  • · Meet with an academic advisor at least two times each semester
