The Department of Theatre
Arts strives to promote integration
of the creative arts for the campus,
community and region by fostering
a climate of creativity and cultural
enrichment.
The curriculum of the Department
of Theatre Arts provides students
with opportunities to pursue either
of the undergraduate degrees of
Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor
of Arts.
Bachelor of Arts students
may choose to emphasize any of
the following areas of study:
directing, set design, lighting
design, sound design, costume
design, technical theatre, costume
construction, dance, playwriting
and dramatic literature.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts
is a pre-professional degree,
and it requires a higher level
of proficiency in acting. Students
seeking admission to the B.F.A.
program must submit an application
to the chairperson who will then
schedule an audition or portfolio
presentation and personal interview
for the candidate. Admission to
the B.F.A. is usually sought during
the spring semester of the sophomore
year. The Theatre Arts Faculty
reviews each B.F.A. student annually
and recommends continuance in
the program or probation.
