Biology 336 - Fall 2008

Upon completion of this class, you should be able to do the following:

1. Ability to understand morphological descriptions

2. Ability to differentiate mitosis and meiosis figures and determine chromosome numbers

3. Ability to evaluate distributional data

4. Ability to construct a data matrix from morphological, chemical, DNA, RFLP raw data

5. Ability to analyze data from all of the above

6. Ability to synthesize the above into a coherent solution to: What are the relationships of the taxa involved? What are their ranks? Ability to support your answer.

Grading: This is a 4 credit class. Half of your time will be spent in lab and half in lecture.

Tests - 100 pts each

Final - 200 pts

Plant Collection 50 collection numbers at 2 pts each. 100 pts. 20 due Sep 25th, 20 due Oct 21st, 10 due Nov 18th by 4:30 PM

Lab Quizzes @5 pts each (two larger quizes may be substituted @ 25 pts each)

Two non-ID labs will also carry ~10 pts each.
