Stamens usually 4 or 2, rarely 5, epipetalous and alternate with corolla lobes
Pistil 1, of 2 fused carpels, superior ovary
Leaves may be opposite, alternate, basal, or whorled
Leaves exstipulate and not compound
Fruit usually a capsule
